Manufacturers' agencies - a definitionIntroduction Koch Group has been working with manufacturers since the early 1970's to evaluate their existing agency or rep networks and to help them set up effective agents or reps to help grow their businesses. Based on that work we have put together the definition of what a manufacturers' agent is as show below. Industrial manufacturers’ agent definition Industrial manufacturers’ agents (representatives) are independent, self-employed, salespersons that contract to represent one or more manufacturers in a defined geographic sales territory, on a commission only basis. These agents typically represent several principals who manufacture products or supply services that complement each other. Manufacturers’ agents do not represent additional principals whose products or services would compete directly with the existing principals they represent. The agent’s professional sales abilities augment, and normally exceed, those of their principals’ internal staffs. Manufacturers’ agents sell components, materials, finished products, or industrial services to:
dependent on the product lines represented. Industrial agents typically have strong technical backgrounds and will often act in the capacity of a field sales engineer to evaluate, and then develop an engineered solution to, a customer’s technical problems. See how Koch Group's decades of agent expertise can benefit your organization's search for, or use of, manufacturers' agents. Related industrial marketing tips
